This is the dramatic moment a dad carrying his baby nearly falls into a well as its cover collapses under them, but he manages to heroically hold on to his infant and stop both of them from falling in using his free arm.

The incident was captured on CCTV in the city of Maoming in China’s southern Guangdong Province, where the dad run a furniture business.

The footage shows him taking a stroll with his infant in his arms when he steps on the metal well cover, which suddenly gives way.

The man plunges into the well but holds on to his child tightly, keeping himself and his baby above ground using his free arm.

Nearby witnesses rush to his aid, grabbing the child from his arms as half his body remains underground in the hole, which reportedly holds pipe valves and was fortunately not deep.

The child, whose gender was not reported, escapes unharmed, while the dad himself is able to climb out the hole.

Witnesses said the parent suffered minor cuts during the fall but was not seriously injured.

He later returned to the well to retrieve one of his shoes before sliding the lid back on again.

According to reports, the cover was likely loosened by a passing car. Local officials are expected to replace it.
