This is the moment a scared young girl who had fallen down a 13-foot well is saved by a brave fireman who climbs down to rescue the trapped child.

The girl, aged three, is from Hua County in the city of Anyang Central China’s Henan Province.

She left her family members in a state of panic when she accidentally stumbled into the 4-metre (13-foot) deep dry well while playing on 11th March.

The footage shows her rubbing her eyes while stuck at the very bottom, out of reach of rescuers.

Her relatives called the police after being unable to free the girl, who remained conscious and cried loudly underground.

The local fire service sent a team of 14 rescuers to the scene, with fireman Sun Jun volunteering to lower himself into the well, which had an opening just 60 centimetres (23 inches) wide.

Sun said the plan was to fasten ropes around the girl so his colleagues could pull her out.

However, when he reached her, he found the girl to be small and light enough for him to hold, so he clung onto her while other firemen hoisted him back up.

The footage shows the little girl wearing red freed brought back to the surface and able to stand while her mum dusts her off.

The authorities said she suffered no injuries besides a few scratches.

It was unclear at the time of writing whether the well had been properly sealed.
