A mahjong gambler has survived being stabbed in the neck with a pair of scissors in a suspected revenge attack after he apparently ridiculed his assailant.

The victim, who police say is not in any life-threatening condition, tried to give chase but was ultimately outrun by the at-large suspect.

CCTV footage from a mahjong club in the city of Shenyang, capital of north-eastern China’s Liaoning Province, shows the victim seated at a table with three other players.

While focusing on the Chinese game, he is suddenly and repeatedly stabbed in the neck by the suspect standing to his right.

The video shows the assailant brandishing the scissors without warning and unceremoniously jabbing at the gambler’s neck.

In the footage, bloodstains can be seen on the white tile floor as the victim and others pursue the suspect, who witnesses identified as a cleaner working at a bathhouse across the road from the establishment.

According to regular visitors of the mahjong club, the cleaner shows up often but is looked down upon and ridiculed due to his profession.

He is believed to have been drunk and sought revenge after allegedly being mocked.

Authorities say they are still searching for the suspect.
