However, the cuddly toy falls and the spooked dog momentarily runs away before returning to collect it.

The pooch is then seen taking it out of the shop and onto the street.

According to reports, the teddy bear costs 500 MXN (20 GBP).

The shop owners said that the dog was accompanied by its owner who passed through the shop looking for his pet seconds after it had run off with the teddy bear.

It is not known whether the shop owners have managed to retrieve the ‘stolen’ item.

Netizen ‘Veronica Guerrero Lopez’ commented: “When your dog is more romantic than your boyfriend…”

‘Kriza Lux’ said: “I am going to train mine to steal a bear for me!”

‘Karo Cerecedo’ wrote: “So beautiful, the dog must be very loving.”

‘Arely Carreto’ added: “Even the dog is gifting a teddy bear to its girlfriend (on Valentine’s Day).”

The teddy bear was invented by Morris Michtom in 1902 and named after President Theodore ‘Teddy’ Roosevelt.
