This is the heartbreaking moment a cow lovingly follows its dead calf that had been struck by lightning as its limp body is dragged behind a tractor to a burial spot.

The incident took place in the district of Bozova in the south-eastern Turkish province of Sanliurfa when Mustafa Karabulut’s barn was struck by lightning during a thunderstorm.

According to local media, the lightning strike killed four livestock and caused several pregnant animals to suffer a miscarriage.

The farmer took the dead animals from the barn and tied them to the back of his tractor to take them to a burial spot.

When it was time to drag the electrocuted calf behind the tractor, the heartbroken mum followed behind, all the while trying to animate her dead offspring.

Reports said that she followed the tractor for several kilometres.

Karabulut posted the video online with the message: “This mother cannot leave her offspring alone. Everyone needs to understand the value of a mother’s love. Watch closely. This is what it means to be a mum.”

According to the farmer, the four dead animals were worth 25,000 TRY (3,370 GBP).
