The incident took place in the town of Klang in the state of Selangor in Malaysia, when the 41-year-old man, whose identity has not been disclosed, smashed a bank machine’s screen after not being able to withdraw money.

When the police arrived at the scene the suspect had already left but at 2 pm they reportedly saw him in front of the bank holding a knife.

After trying to calm him for 20 minutes he suddenly became aggressive and tried to stab one of the police officers, according to local media.

The video shows the man wearing a red t-shirt running after a police officer as the other cop is seen shooting towards him three times.

He is then seen being attended by the medical team before being rushed to hospital. His condition is reported to be stable.

Police Inspector-General Mohamad Fuzi explained that some people might not be happy with the police officer’s action but that he had no choice.

They have seized a seven-inch knife and a bag thought to contain drugs.

The investigation is ongoing.
