This is the moment a blundering driver causes more than 100,000 GBP in damage to his friend’s Lamborghini by crashing it straight into a traffic island while turning.

The accident was captured on a CCTV camera in the city of Jinhua in East China’s Zhejiang Province, where authorities say the supercar was found with all its airbags deployed and its front-left wheel punctured.

The driver surnamed Tong, who is in his 30s, had borrowed the cyan Lamborghini just 20 minutes before crashing it against the concrete.

The car appears to be a Gallardo although the model has not been reported.

Footage from the junction between Wuzhou Street and Liyu Road shows Tong turning through the crossroads but failing to notice the traffic island right in front of him.

He slams into the concrete without stopping, causing reportedly over 1 million RMB (114,665 GBP) in damage to the Lamborghini.

Tong told police: “I was driving really slowing during the turn. I didn’t see the traffic island and crashed straight into it.”

He added: “How did I not see it?”

Jinhua traffic police reviewing the traffic camera footage said they believe the crash was caused by Tong’s failure to follow the turn markings on the road, which act as guidelines to prevent drivers from underestimating the turn.

The authorities said the Lamborghini’s low ride height may also have been a factor.

It is unclear whether the owner’s insurance will cover the crash.
