This is the shocking moment an elderly woman is reversed over by a car that then drags her backwards and forwards underneath as the driver tries to free himself from the ‘obstruction’.

The horrific accident happened on 2nd January in the county of Jiayu in Xianning City in Central China’s Hubei Province.

CCTV footage shows the pensioner standing on the road outside the residential area where she lives. She stands behind a stopped people carrier as passengers climb inside.

The car then starts up and suddenly reverses into the elderly woman, who falls face first onto the asphalt as the car driver runs over her.

But he does not appear to realise the woman is there, as the video shows the vehicle being driven forwards again, dragging the pensioner along with it.

The wheels drive onto her a third time as the motorist reverses again, pulling the pensioner’s body backwards along the ground and out of frame.

Only when the obstacle did not become free did the driver and occupants of the car got out to check what wa shappening.

She was taken to hospital for treatment but is understood to have died of her injuries, a local resident told Asia Wire.

Xianning police are investigating the case.
