Police have issued this photograph of a woman who was arrested and reportedly confessed to slitting a four-year-old girl’s throat in a black magic ritual.

The incident occurred in the village of Kurumpatti in the district of Pudukkottai in the state of Tamil Nadu in India where the 47-year-old woman accused of the murder offered to improve the fortunes of her clients or harm their enemies.

The suspected killer, identified only by her first name Chinnapillai, told police she hoped to improve her magic business by offering the sacrifice of the little girl who lived in a neighbouring house.

When the little girl’s parents and brother were not around, she promised her sweets in order to lure her to a remote place where she then allegedly cut her throat.

Police spokesman Inspector Mangayarkarasi said that the woman’s business had suffered after she carried out a ritual in a graveyard after which one of her helpers reportedly died a short while later.

Superstitious locals had told her to stop practising the black arts, and as a result she had lost business, and had apparently hoped that the death of the girl would return the business to its previous level.

The case has been filed against the woman who is currently in the Trichy central women’s prison.
