World’s Oldest Worker’s 102nd Birthday Bash

This is the heartwarming moment the workmates of the world’s oldest salesman spring a surprise party to celebrate his 102nd birthday.

Walter Orthmann is down in the Guinness World Records book as the employee with the longest career in a company after 86 years with the same firm.

Incredibly, despite his advanced age, popular Walter still works as a salesman at the textile company in Brusque, Santa Catarina State, Brazil.

So on 19th April, his workmates decided to help him see his big day with a special cake at his home.

Video footage shows Walter as he sat in a wheelchair and greeted his guests of all ages with a huge smile as they walked in carrying the cake with birthday candles.

Then they all clapped and cheered as Walter blew out the candles and thanked them one by one.

Walter reportedly started working at the textile company on 17th January 1938, at the age of 15, as a packing assistant.

With a second-hand bicycle acquired by his father, he then applied for the position of office boy.

He needed to pick up mail, collect newspapers and carry bags of money to the payroll.

In the 1950s, he was responsible for the company’s revenue and, during a sales trip to Sao Paulo, he obtained orders that guaranteed the company three months of production.

In 2018 he won his Guinness title which he has held for six years.

Co-worker Roberto Sande said: “We couldn’t let this date go by, he is very important to us.”
